I currently live in Pennsylvania, but have also lived in Minneapolis, Virginia, Colorado, New York, and California. Moving has made me a more well-rounded person, and I hope to continue traveling in the future. At the State University of New York at Buffalo, I studied under Alan Cober, well known for his beautiful corporate illustration. The art department arranged a visiting artist series where students met working illustrators, designers and creative directors for in-class critiques and lectures. Some of the people I met that influenced me are Sue Coe, Henrik Drescher, and Marshall Arisman, to name a few. Other favorite illustrators include Maira Kalman, Lane Smith, and Brad Holland. While in college in New York I helped open and run Taste of India Restaurant, where I stayed several years after graduating. During that time I also had the good fortune to travel to Punjab, India and to Lahore and Karachi, Pakistan with friends. After working 1.5 years as a software recruiter in California, I decided to move back to the east coast. While California is the most beautiful place I've been, I wanted to be closer to my family and start a career in art. I began working as an illustrator for academic textbooks, which I continued for 4-5 years. Wanting to branch out into other areas of art, I started doing freelance design on my own and through staffing agencies, and I took some design and web courses at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. My first design job was at a newspaper, where I learned how to work quickly and efficiently. I currently work for an advertising agency doing about 60% web design, and 40% print design in the form of trade ads, trade show graphics, logos, and other print work. In my free time I enjoy traveling, hiking, yoga, reading historical fiction, and listening to music. I also enjoy creating abstract, biomorphic paintings with a focus on pattern, color, and symbolism. |
